SAFF & ACC: Nepal Heads for Semifinal Against Afghanistan

Nepal will take on Afghanistan in two historic games on the same day: SAFF Championships 2011 semifinal and ACC Twenty20 Cup Tournament semifinal, going to be held Tomorrow on 9th December.

SAFF

Nepal will be playing against the Afghan Team, the winner of Group ‘A’ in the semifinal of SAFF Championship 2011. First Nepal seemed certain to play against India but it changed after Afghanistan defeated Bhutan with 8-1 on Wednesday, with altogether seven points. Nepal secured its semifinal berth on Tuesday drawing with 1-1 against Pakistan; 1-1 draw with Maldives and a previous victory over Bangladesh with 1-0. The victory against Bangladesh was sealed by Team Captain Sagar Thapa, who has also earned worldwide attention with the splendid goal that he scored through a 35 yard free kick.

Although Nepal had defeated Afghanistan over previous SAFF Championships, Afghanistan’s 8-1 defeat to Bhutan can’t be avoided. So Nepal should not underestimate their opponents.
