Kathmandu. Labor and Culture Party lawmaker Aren Rai has said that the rescue and relief work in the flood-affected areas including Rasuwa has not been effective. He stressed that the government should be sensitive and serious during the disaster and mobilize it immediately. <\/p>\n
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Rai said that he and his party team reached the affected areas and observed the rescue and relief situation on the spot. He also praised and thanked the efforts of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army and various organizations in the rescue operation. <\/p>\n
Rai accused the government of delaying the rescue operation in the initial phase of the disaster. According to him, the security agencies, youths, former security personnel, expert teams and organizations that want to assist in the rescue have not been effectively mobilized in the affected areas. <\/p>\n
He said although a team of foreign experts was available for rescue in Betrawati area, it was difficult to use their equipment immediately due to the coordination and permission process among the bodies concerned. <\/p>\n
“The government itself would not do it and would not allow others to do it,” Rai said. \u2019<\/p>\n
He said that unnecessary obstacles should not be created in the rescue and relief in the name of ‘one-door system’ during disasters. He said that all citizens should rise above the party, power and opposition and work together in times of crisis. <\/p>\n
Rai said that some of the flood-affected areas did not even reach relief materials in the initial days. He claimed that people were staying in holding centers in some places while walking from Betrawati to Rasuwa, but there was not enough relief. <\/p>\n
He said that the vehicles carrying relief materials have arrived the next day after they made public the situation in the affected areas. Rai said that they have also taken the initiative to provide relief in the areas where it is difficult to reach in coordination with the local administration. <\/p>\n
He said that the government, political parties, lawmakers and citizens should all work as a common responsibility during the disaster. Rai urged the government to immediately treat and manage the affected children, women, people with disabilities and the injured. <\/p>\n
He said that the government should bring a special plan for the protection and rehabilitation of the children who have lost their parents. He also demanded that the affected people should be provided safe shelter as soon as possible. <\/p>\n
“We are ready to support the government”, he said, adding, “The government should call all for necessary support from building houses to road construction”. \u2019<\/p>\n
