KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Bharat Giri has urged the government to carry out a mandatory security audit of the major highways and immediately repair and construct protective structures on the risky roads. <\/p>\n
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, MP Giri said that millions of Nepalis are preparing to return home to meet their families and relatives to celebrate Dashain and Tihar. He said that during the festivals, there will be a lot of pressure on the highway during the emotional journey to reconnect with the families who are far away throughout the year. <\/p>\n
He said, “As the festival approaches, millions of Nepalis are preparing to return home to celebrate Dashain and Tihar with their families and relatives. This journey is an emotional journey for them to reconnect with their families who are far away throughout the year. <\/p>\n
Every year, during the festival, there is a lot of pressure on the highway. Dilapidated roads, dangerous turns, possibility of landslides, condition of vehicles and negligence of drivers are making the journey dangerous. <\/p>\n
Therefore, I would like to request the government to conduct a mandatory safety audit of the major highways before the start of the festive season and immediately repair and build protective structures on the risky roads. Action should be taken against those involved in overloading, over-speeding and drunk driving. \u2019<\/p>\n
He said that the dilapidated road, risky turns, possibility of landslides, condition of vehicles and carelessness of drivers have made the journey of passengers risky. <\/p>\n
Stressing the need to carry out safety audit of major highways before the festive season, Giri urged the government to immediately repair and construct security structures on risky roads. <\/p>\n
