KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security, Sita Badi, has said that the government has given priority to the relief, rescue, protection and rehabilitation of the people affected by the floods, as well as the protection of vulnerable women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant and lactating women. <\/p>\n
“The government has taken seriously the questions, concerns and suggestions raised about the vulnerable people, including women, children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, pregnant and lactating women, women who are in need of special protection,” she said. \u2019<\/p>\n
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Minister Badi said that the floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on August 26 have caused huge loss of life and property and displaced people. <\/p>\n
She said, “The devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on August 10 have caused a huge loss of life and property, displacement and a serious impact on the lives of the citizens. I pay my heartfelt tribute to all the citizens who lost their lives in this disaster. I wish the injured a speedy recovery and would like to inform that the government is making every effort to find the missing people safely.” \u2019<\/p>\n
Expressing tribute to those who lost their lives in the floods, she wished for the speedy recovery of the injured, adding that the government was making continuous efforts to search for the missing people. <\/p>\n
Minister Badi said that the government is serious and sensitive towards the families who have lost their families, homes and livelihoods due to the floods. She said that the Ministry has been working in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the concerned bodies of the federal government, the provincial and local governments, security agencies, non-governmental organizations and development partners since the disaster struck. <\/p>\n
Minister Badi said that a mechanism on child protection, gender-based violence response and psycho-social support was activated by holding a meeting of the Protection Cluster on August 26 to integrate disaster response. <\/p>\n
The Children Search Service 104, Children Helpline 1098, Women and Children Helpline 1145 and Emergency Health Support Helpline 1115 have been mobilized for disaster response. <\/p>\n
Minister Badi said that special priority has been given to the search, rescue, protection, search for parents and family reunification as children are more vulnerable during floods and disasters. She said that information collection, rescue and protection works are being carried out by forming a coordination mechanism on child protection in the affected 15 local levels. <\/p>\n
She said that child-friendly spaces have been set up at 40 places for the affected children.
