Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has said that monitoring is being done to prevent artificial shortage in the market during the main festivals. <\/p>\n
The Department has claimed that it has been regularly monitoring the market situation, quality, price and stock of goods by mobilizing additional staff from the ministry and its subordinate bodies. <\/p>\n
Director General of the Department of Commerce, Ritesh Kumar Shakya, said that special attention has been given to the smooth supply and management of consumer goods targeting the Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals. According to him, 50 additional employees have been mobilized from the ministry and its subordinate bodies in the Kathmandu Valley in addition to the regular monitoring team. <\/p>\n
According to him, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, the Department of Livestock Services, the District Administration Office, the concerned agencies of the municipality and the province have also been mobilized for market monitoring. A committee formed under the leadership of the Assistant Chief District Officer in the district under the Consumer Protection Act is also monitoring. <\/p>\n
Information about the stock of sugar has been taken from the Salt Trading Corporation and the Food Management and Trading Company. After receiving complaints of increase in the price of meat products, the department has said that it is monitoring in coordination with the Department of Livestock Services. According to Director General Shakya, consumers themselves should also be aware. <\/p>\n
He said that complaints can be lodged through the Department’s hotline, information officer, concerned body and ‘Hello Sarkar’ of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in case of fraud, artificial shortage or other problems in the market. <\/p>\n
