Mamta Kafle Bhatta’s husband Naresh Bhatt, who is facing trial for the murder of Nepalese origin in the US, has confessed to dismembering his wife’s body and throwing it in the garbage. However, he has claimed that he did not kill Mamta and that he was afraid of her suicide and tried to hide her body out of fear.

While giving a statement on the second day of the court, Bhatt has revealed in detail about the incident where he tried to dispose of Mamata’s body, chopped off various parts of her body and dumped it in the garbage. The body of Mamta, who went missing in the summer of 2024, has not been found yet.

Bhatta has been charged with murder, concealing a dead body and insulting a dead body.

Confession to cutting the body to hide the body

}

According to Bhatt’s statement to the court, he tried to give CPR to Mamata after she was found unconscious inside the house. But he said that he was confused at the spot without informing the police or emergency services.

He claimed that he hid his body for fear of being blamed for his wife’s death.

Bhatt has admitted that he tried to make the body smaller by cutting different parts of the body after the body could not fit in the dustbin. He also said that he tried to separate Mamta’s legs from her body and used an electric saw of the ‘Ryobi’ brand for this.

However, he claimed that he could not complete the dismemberment of the body due to feeling mentally and physically weak.

According to him, three garbage bags were used to store the remains of the body. He said that the old garbage from the dustbin of the house was also thrown in the vehicle and thrown at the Falls Church. He said that Mamta’s body was thrown in the garbage in the garage of the house.

When questioned by the prosecution that the body was cut into pieces and kept in the garbage so that it could not be found, Bhatta confessed.

went to Home Depot and Walmart for the management of the body

In the court, Bhatta has revealed that he had gone to Home Depot and Walmart in search of necessary materials to hide the body.

He admitted to buying gloves from Home Depot and said he was looking for materials to transport the body to the Potomac River. He also used a knife to cut the body and threw Mamata’s mobile phone into the drain.

The prosecution had also cited his Google search history as evidence. Bhatt had said that he had searched Google at least 14,000 times during the investigation.

When asked about the search for items such as “meat cutter” and “knife snakener”, he said he remembered looking for something, but could not explain the reason.

Domestic violence allegations denied, disclosure of want to divorce

During the statement, Bhatt has claimed that he never physically assaulted Mamata. But Mamata’s family and friends have been saying that she was a victim of domestic violence.

The prosecution had also shown a photograph dated December 11, 2023, to the court. In the photo, Mamta had bruises under her eyes and blood on her hands and nose.

In the message sent to Naresh, Mamata had said, “This is the second time.” In response, Naresh said that he would sign the divorce papers. However, Bhatt has claimed that he has no involvement in the incident.

He also told the court that he was not happy with the marriage and wanted to get a divorce. He claimed that Mamata used to get stressed when it came to divorce.

‘Love for a wife means dismembering a corpse?’

Prosecution lawyer Matthew Sweet had made a strong argument against Bhatt. He accused Bhatt of lying to the police for a long time saying that he did not know where Mamata was.

During the cross-examination, Sweet asked, “The love you have shown to your wife and your daughter’s mother is to dismember her body and throw it in the dustbin?”

In response, Bhatta said that he has accepted the work he has done.

Earlier, some people present in the court clapped after Lawyer Sweet called Bhatt a liar. Judge Kimberly Irving then ordered to maintain peace in the court.

Accused of lying even in citizenship application

The prosecution had also raised the issue of contradiction between Bhatta’s place of birth mentioned in his US citizenship application and his statement given in court.

In his citizenship application, he mentioned Nepal as his birthplace, but he had told the court that he was born in New Delhi, India.

When lawyer Sweet accused him of lying, Bhatt replied, “This is not a lie, it is a culture.” His answer surprised the people present in the court.

At around 5 p.m. on Thursday, after the prosecution’s cross-examination was over, the judge said goodbye to the jurors.

The defence said it will ask some questions again on Monday and then present its arguments and evidence. While Mamata’s body is yet to be found, Bhatt’s statement and the evidence presented by the prosecution are seen as important.

Kathmandu.
