Kathmandu. The long-awaited expansion of the main road in Birgunj has formally begun from Sunday morning. The road demolition work began at around 5:00 am at the initiative of the Road Division Office, Hetauda by mobilizing dozers. <\/p>\n
A campaign has been launched to widen the road section from Gandak Chowk to Miteri Bridge along the Tribhuvan Highway in Birgunj. Meanwhile, Chief District Officer of Makawanpur, Basanta Adhikari, personally reached the site and inspected the site. <\/p>\n
It is expected that the main roads would become well-managed and widened after the implementation of the plan, which has been stalled for many years due to various reasons. The administration believes that with the expansion of the road, the vehicular movement will be easier, traffic management will improve and there will be positive impact on business activities. <\/p>\n
The campaign is being carried out with the active presence of local administration and security personnel and the road will be expanded as per the set criteria. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in Hetauda, the road expansion campaign has created controversy and legal complications. A total of 531 structures were demolished in Hetauda bazaar area in a single day while clearing the Right of Way (WAY). The Division Road Office had said that the structures were removed by using dozers from morning till evening. <\/p>\n
The building where the shop of Deputy Mayor of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City, Rajesh Baniya was located, was demolished on the first priority. Chief of Division Road Office, Hetauda, Guru Prasad Adhikari, shared that the structures from Rato Mate to Chowki Tole and from Buddha Chowk to Rapti bridge have been removed. <\/p>\n
However, after a writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court against the campaign, the Supreme Court issued a temporary interim order asking to “maintain status quo”. Further controversy erupted over the demolition of the structure without implementing the court order. <\/p>\n
The issue of whether the new campaign launched in Birgunj will face legal challenges like that of Hetauda or move ahead in a systematic manner is now the center of concern.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
