KATHMANDU: Planting of grass has begun under the &#8216;Tundikhel Hariyali Programme&#8217; launched with the objective of making Tundikhel, the historic and open public area of the capital more green, systematic and environment-friendly. <\/p>\n<p>Grass plantation has been started in the open area of Tundikhel in coordination with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Nepal Army and the concerned bodies. It is said that the task of planting grass has been taken forward as part of the campaign to make Tundikhel, which has been dusty, grassless and deserted in some places for years. <\/p>\n<p>Under the programme, green grass will be expanded in different parts of Tundikhel. It is expected to enhance the beauty of Tundikhel, control dust, maintain environmental balance and provide clean and pleasant open space to the public. <\/p>\n<p>According to the concerned body, regular irrigation, protection and management will also be carried out after the grass is planted. It is said that the work has been expedited as this is the appropriate time to plant grass as the rainy season is about to start. <\/p>\n<p>Tundikhel is a major open area in the Kathmandu Valley. National ceremonies, cultural programs, sports activities and daily visits of the general public take place here.
