Kathmandu. The committee formed to investigate the then Home Minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Sudhan Gurung has submitted its report. <\/p>\n
Coordinator of the probe committee, former judge Achyutam Prasad Bhandari, said that the report was submitted to Prime Minister Balen Shah after completing the probe process. <\/p>\n
“We have submitted the report on our behalf. Now the rest of the process will be done from there,” he said. The report is of 45 pages. The committee had also recorded statements from Gurung. <\/p>\n
Before recording his statement, the committee said it had examined the property details of the allegations levelled against him. <\/p>\n
A meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 28 had formed a probe committee comprising former judge Achyut Prasad Bhandari, chairperson of the High Court, Auditor General Shobhakanta Poudel and Joint Attorney General Achyut Mani Neupane as members. <\/p>\n
The committee had studied the allegations against him by inquiring with the concerned sector as well as examining the property details. <\/p>\n
What is the allegation against Sudhan? <\/strong><\/p>\n Deepak Bhatta, a businessman, was arrested from Kathmandu on April 19 on the charge of money laundering. He is still in police custody. Gurung was dragged into a controversy after he was found to be a partner with Bhatta, who is in custody. <\/p>\n Gurung had submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister on April 9 after the controversial businessman’s shares were found to have been hidden while making his property details public. There were many comments about the property details, land, gold and other issues submitted by him. <\/p>\n Resigning from his post on Facebook, Gurung wrote, “I have taken seriously the questions, comments and public concerns raised on the issue of shares from the citizen level in recent days. For me, morality is more important than position. There is no greater power than public trust. There should be an impartial investigation into the matter related to me. \u2019<\/p>\n The government had formed a probe committee on May 14, 20 days after Gurung resigned from the post. Gurung had resigned from the minister’s post after the allegations were levelled against him. Since then, the Home Ministry has been under the Prime Minister’s control.
