Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has said that monsoon arrival in Nepal is likely to be delayed by a few days this year. <\/p>\n
According to the Department, the monsoon that was scheduled to enter Nepal on June 13 has not entered Nepal so far this year. <\/p>\n
Issuing a press release on Monday, the Department said on the basis of the data collected from the satellite and the analysis of mathematical weather forecasting, monsoon might be postponed by some days. <\/p>\n
Mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces are experiencing light to moderate rainfall at present as the influence of the Westerly and local winds is prevailing in the country. <\/p>\n
According to the department, El Ni\u00f1o has developed in the Pacific Ocean and its influence is gradually strengthening. <\/p>\n
There is a possibility of weakening the monsoon in Nepal as the South Asian monsoon system is likely to be affected due to El Ni\u00f1o. This is the reason why the arrival of monsoon may be delayed, the department has concluded. <\/p>\n
According to the Department, the monsoon entered late in the past years also due to the impact of El Ni\u00f1o. In 1972, 1982, 1983, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2009, 2016, 2019 and 2023, monsoon entered Nepal later than the normal date. The Department has data that the monsoon arrived on different dates from June 14 to June 27 during these years. <\/p>\n
The Meteorological Forecasting Division has said it has been continuously monitoring the monsoon system this year. <\/p>\n
The Department has urged the public to pay attention to the official weather bulletins and information as the updated weather information will be released regularly. <\/p>\n
With the possibility of late arrival of monsoon, farmers, water resources and bodies related to disaster management need to adopt necessary preparations and alertness.
