Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Pvt. Ltd. Dr. The new Rs 500 denomination banknote has been issued with the signature of Bishwanath Poudel on Wednesday.

According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, a new phase of currency notes has started in the country’s financial system with the entry of new notes into the market. According to the NRB, although the new banknotes are shaped and coloured similar to the old design, significant modifications have been made in security features, series structure and identification system. The code numbers of the current notes are J38 000001 to T83 9999999.

According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, around 1 million pieces of notes will be printed in each letter group from 000001 to 999999 under each letter group. With the introduction of the new banknotes, the process of gradually replacing around 248,000 units of Rs 500 denomination notes of the 2020 series is also expected to move ahead.

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has given priority to national identity and modern security technology in the new banknotes. The obverse note has a picture of the world’s highest peak Mount Everest on the left side while the water stamp of Nepal’s national flower Laligurans has been placed on the right. The 2082 series number is mentioned at the bottom.

For the easy identification of visually impaired and low vision people, two black dots have been placed on the left side of the water seal, which can be touched to identify the value of the note.

On the right side of Mount Everest, an elliptical figure includes a painting of Kubera, whose color changes according to the angle of light. This security technology, which appears golden and green when tilted, is expected to help control counterfeiting.

Similarly, a special protective thread of 3.5 mm width has been used in the note, whose color also changes according to the light. On the reverse side of the note, there is a picture of the Bengal tiger as a symbol of Nepal’s biodiversity. Nepal Rastra Bank is written in English at the top and Rs 500 is written in English at the bottom.

According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, the new banknote is not only a means of currency but also an example of modern design aimed at strengthening national identity, cutting edge security technology and inclusive financial access.

Kathmandu.
