Kathmandu. Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has said the process for the construction of additional 1600 telephone towers and related sites was underway for enhancing the quality and access of telecommunication services throughout the country. <\/p>\n
Responding to the queries raised by lawmakers in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr Timilsina said the complaints about the poor quality of telecommunication and internet service in the rural and remote areas have been received and the Ministry was seriously working to address this issue. <\/p>\n
He said that more amount than the budget of the Ministry would be invested through Nepal Telecom in the coming fiscal year for the expansion and upgradation of telecommunication service. He said that Nepal Telecom alone is preparing to invest more than six billion rupees in the coming fiscal year for the expansion of service and quality improvement in the rural areas. <\/p>\n
Minister for Communications Dr. Currently, there are 4,829 sites in operation across the country. Of them, 760 sites are in operation in Koshi Province, 568 in Madhes, 1,277 in Bagmati, 599 in Gandaki, 819 in Lumbini, 305 in Karnali and 501 in Sudurpaschim Province. <\/p>\n
The study has shown the need for additional infrastructure in Koshi River, Madhes 228, Bagmati Province 389, Gandaki Province 76, Lumbini 200, Karnali Province 121 and Sudurpaschim Province 172. <\/p>\n
Expressing confidence that the quality and access of telecommunication services across the country would improve significantly after the operation of these additional sites as evaluated by Nepal Telecommunications Authority and Nepal Telecom, Minister Timilsina said procurement process is going to be forwarded for around 1600 sites targeting the construction of more than necessary infrastructures. <\/p>\n
According to him, although it will take some time as most of the equipment of telecommunication equipment have to be purchased from abroad, the Ministry has directed the concerned service providers to complete the work within the deadline by coordinating regularly. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr Timilsina said the government was sensitive to the complaints of the people regarding telecommunications services and works were underway in a speedy manner to ensure quality communications services to the citizens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
