Kathmandu. The National Cooperative Federation of Nepal (NCFN) is going to host the International Cooperative Women’s Conference 2026. The conference will be held at Heritage Garden, Sun City, Sanepa, Lalitpur on June 6 and 7. <\/p>\n
The conference is being organized with the slogan ‘Women in Leadership, Cooperatives in Prosperity’. <\/p>\n
The conference is expected to be more relevant in the context of the United Nations declaring 2026 as the ‘International Year of Farmers’ Women’. <\/p>\n
More than 80 per cent of women are involved in agriculture in rural areas of Nepal and around 56 per cent are actively involved in over 32,000 cooperatives across the country. According to the press release, women have played an important role in strengthening the rural economy by contributing from self-help groups to big financial institutions through cooperatives. <\/p>\n
According to the federation, the cooperatives sector has been making significant contribution to economic empowerment, entrepreneurship development, employment creation and leadership development of women. In addition, the cooperatives have helped expand women’s participation in decision-making, raise social awareness and promote rights and health education. <\/p>\n
The conference will feature policy dialogue, presentation of working papers, exhibition of products produced by women cooperatives, international observation tour, cultural programme and World Heritage Site observation. <\/p>\n
The federation is organizing the conference in collaboration with the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation. FAO Nepal and Heifer International are the co-organizers of the event. <\/p>\n
More than 200 women cooperatives from all seven provinces will be participating in the event. Cooperative activists and experts from India, Bhutan, Thailand and Sri Lanka will also participate in the event. <\/p>\n
The ‘Kathmandu Declaration-2026’ will be issued at the end of the summit. The declaration is expected to contribute to women’s empowerment, gender equality, sustainable agricultural systems and cooperative development. <\/p>\n
The federation has expressed the belief that the conference would help establish Nepal as the centre of international cooperative dialogue and women’s leadership development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
