An old photo made public on social media shows that the campaign to repatriate two idols of Akash Bhairav (Hand Deu) of Dolakha, which was stolen to the United States three decades ago, has been successful. <\/p>\n<p>After around four years of continuous legal, diplomatic and technical efforts, these valuable heritages were finally returned to their native Dolakha on June 18. <\/p>\n<p>Two idols of Akash Bhairav of the Malla era were stolen from the family of the Nakchhe Pradhan family of Dolakha on March 6, 2050 and March 7, 2051 BS. Since then, there has been no trace of the heritage. <\/p>\n<p>However, the On the occasion of Indra Jatra of 2074 BS, Anil Chandra Shrestha had shared an old photo on social media titled &#8216;We can see only in photos&#8217; became an important evidence of the heritage search campaign. Later, Balkrishna Pasa wrote an article based on the same photograph. <\/p>\n<p>The idol search campaign took a new turn after the material reached the attention of Lost Arts of Nepal. <\/p>\n<p>Anil Chandra Shrestha, Yagya Kumar Pradhan, Sanjay Adhikari, Nepal Heritage Recovery Campaign and Arts of Nepal have been working in coordination with Nepal Heritage Recovery Campaign and Art of Nepal since 2079 BS. <\/p>\n<p>During this time, there were several virtual meetings with the New York Attorney General&#8217;s Office. After the investigation, both the idols were confiscated from two museums in the US and handed over to the Nepalese Consulate in New York after completing the necessary legal process. <\/p>\n<p>Newa Guthi New York President Bijaya Man Singh and Secretary Prem Gopal Maharjan are said to have provided significant support in bringing the idols to Nepal. According to the people involved in the campaign, they have been able to bring back four historical idols including two from Dolakha to Nepal after his initiative. <\/p>\n<p>The Department of Archaeology informed about the arrival of the idol in Nepal through a press conference on 17th January 2008. The idols were then safely kept at the Nepal National Museum. After completing the necessary process, both the idols of Akash Bhairav were returned to Dolakha on June 18 after some 30 years. <\/p>\n<p>This historic success has been possible due to the continuous efforts of the locals, the collection of legal evidence, international coordination and the tireless work of heritage conservation activists. <\/p>\n<p>The locals of Dolakha have expressed their gratitude to Sanjay Adhikari, Secretary of Nepal Heritage Recovery Campaign, Arts of Nepal, New York Attorney General&#8217;s Office, Department of Archaeology, Newa Guthi New York, Nepal National Museum and all the organizations and individuals who directly or indirectly supported the campaign. <\/p>\n<p>According to the locals, this is not only the return of two idols but also an inspiring example for Nepal&#8217;s campaign to bring back the historical and religious heritages that have been sent abroad. <\/p>\n<p>They say that the search for old photographs has finally turned into a successful campaign to bring cultural history back to their homeland after three decades.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ramechhap.
