Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has extended best wishes on the occasion of National Paddy Day on June 29 and June 29. <\/p>\n
In a message of best wishes today, Thapa said that as Nepal is an agriculture-based country, agriculture is the mainstay of civilization, culture and economy of the nation. Expressing high respect to the farmers who ensured the country’s food security by sweating in their fields, he said Asar 15 is a celebration of farmers’ hard work, struggle, hope and self-reliance. <\/p>\n
Stating that the constitution has guaranteed every citizen’s right to food as the fundamental right, Thapa said increasing paddy production was not only an agricultural activity but also related to the implementation of the spirit of the constitution. He, however, drew the attention of the government towards the fact that farmers were facing shortage of seeds, fertilizer, irrigation and proper price every year. According to him, climate change has created more challenges in the agriculture sector. <\/p>\n
Recalling the slogan of this year’s National Paddy Day \u2013 climate-friendly technology, self-sufficiency and prosperity in paddy, Thapa underscored the need of expanding climate-friendly and environment-friendly agriculture technology. According to him, dependence on rice import could be reduced by increasing production through the use of modern technology. <\/p>\n
He stressed the need of expanding irrigation, use of modern agro technology, improved seeds, quality fertilizer, storage and ensuring farmers’ right price for their produce. He also pointed out the need for all sides to unite to develop agriculture as a respectable, dignified and attractive profession. <\/p>\n
In his concluding message, Thapa wished that the National Paddy Day and Asar 15 may further strengthen respect towards farmers and inspire one and all towards food security and agricultural prosperity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
