KATHMANDU: Women Tourism Entrepreneurs Network has organized promotional tours and interaction programs in various tourist destinations of Koshi Province with the objective of promoting the tourism potential of eastern Nepal at national and international level. <\/p>\n<p>Under the campaign implemented in collaboration with Nepal Tourism Board, women entrepreneurs from the tourism sector visited new and established tourist destinations in Koshi Province and discussed with the local government, tourism entrepreneurs, homestay operators and the community about the possibilities, challenges and future strategy of tourism development. During the visit, the delegation participated in an interaction program organized at Shree Antu of Ilam. <\/p>\n<p>Jaya Baral, chairperson of Women Tourism Entrepreneurs Network, said Koshi Province is the most prosperous state of Nepal in terms of natural, religious, cultural, historical and adventure tourism and stressed the need to develop its tourism potentials in a planned manner. <\/p>\n<p>He pointed out the need to develop religious pilgrimage, archaeological heritage, natural beauty and adventurous tourism destinations in eastern Nepal as tourism products by linking them with local agriculture, culture and lifestyle. He was of the view that the rural economy could be further strengthened if local products, local foods, unique culture and rural lifestyle could be linked with tourism, especially giving priority to agri-tourism. <\/p>\n<p>Baral said that each local level should develop an integrated tourism package by identifying the new tourism sites and heritages of their area, cultural features and new destinations. He also stressed the need to develop quality tourism products through effective collaboration among local government, tourism entrepreneurs, hotel and homestay operators, transport entrepreneurs and local communities. Stating that the partnership between the government and private sector should be strengthened to address the existing challenges in the tourism sector, he said that joint commitment of all stakeholders was necessary to establish tourism as a major basis for local economic development. <\/p>\n<p>The local tourism entrepreneurs who participated in the interaction expressed the belief that the benefits of tourism would reach the remote villages if the less known destinations of eastern Nepal were effectively promoted. They stressed on the need for more effective collaboration among local government, private sector and tourism related organizations to promote community-based tourism, rural tourism and local enterprises. <\/p>\n<p>Kanchana Baral, treasurer of Antu Tourism Entrepreneurs Association, said that Shree Antu is one of the major destinations where the first sunrise of Nepal can be observed and the area is rich in natural, religious and historical heritages. He also informed that well-equipped homestay and four-star hotel has also come into operation for tourists seeking high-level service in Antu. <\/p>\n<p>According to him, the budget should be increased for the construction of necessary infrastructures by studying the tourism potentials of the local level and a clear government policy was necessary to take ahead the promotion and conservation in a balanced manner. Dhan Kumar Ale, president of Antu Danda Community Homestay, said that homestay is an important medium for the development of rural tourism and the homestay network should be further strengthened to expand tourism in the villages of eastern Nepal. <\/p>\n<p>He said that eastern Nepal could be developed as a multi-dimensional tourism destination as one can get different climate, natural beauty, biodiversity and cultural experiences in a short distance. Suryodaya municipality-5 ward chair Urgen Bomjon said the local government has been implementing programs related to roads, trekking routes, tourism infrastructure development and destination protection and promotion, considering tourism as the major basis of development. <\/p>\n<p>He expressed the belief that collaboration among local government, private sector and tourism-related organizations would make tourism development more effective. According to him, budget has been allocated for various projects related to tourism infrastructure and destination development in the current fiscal year. <\/p>\n<p>Likewise, programmes to connect women, children and local communities with tourism development have been prioritized, he added. The team started its journey from Kathmandu and observed major tourist destinations of Koshi Province including Koshi Barrage, Jhapa, Ilam, Shree Antu, Baraha Chhetra. <\/p>\n<p>Extensive discussions were held with the local government, tourism entrepreneurs, community and stakeholders on the possibilities of tourism, challenges, destination promotion, infrastructure development and opportunities of border tourism. <\/p>\n<p>According to the Women Tourism Entrepreneurs Network, such promotional campaigns are expected to promote new tourism destinations in the national and international markets, increase the income of local communities, empower women entrepreneurship, expand rural tourism and contribute to sustainable TAG_CLOSE_span_33 TAG_OPEN_span_33 tourism development.
