Kathmandu. The construction of the second phase of the 8.2-km Kalanki-Basundhara section under the Kathmandu Ring Road Improvement Project is to begin immediately after the Dashain and Tihar festivals. After the final design approval, the Chinese side is preparing to start the construction work by completing the tender process in China, said Ashika Pokharel, chief of the project. <\/p>\n

According to him, the service lane outside the main expressway under the project is being constructed with Nepali source. About 80 percent progress has been made so far. Only blacktopping is left to be done in some places. <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n

The Chinese side has already submitted the preliminary design for the construction of the main expressway.TAG_OPEN_div_34 She said that necessary suggestions and comments have been given by the Nepal side and the final design is currently in the stage of submission. “It’s not going to start on this date. We expect it to enter the implementation phase after the monsoon and festivals,” she said. <\/p>\n

She expressed the belief that the construction process would move ahead soon as the tender process in China would be shorter than that of Nepal. He said that the project was delayed due to the time taken to clear the site. She said that the project was delayed by about three to four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the Chinese side could not come to the construction of the house due to the removal of houses, trees and other structures. According to him, the necessary paperwork, correspondence, survey and design works have been progressing continuously in the recent period. <\/p>\n

The initial estimated cost of the project was around Rs 12 billion. However, the cost is being updated again due to inflation and improvements in design. She said that the exact cost would be made public only after the revised cost details are received along with the final design. <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n

He said that in the second phase, possible complications are already identified and efforts are being made to solve them.TAG_OPEN_div_32 “We learned the complexities involved in the implementation of the first phase. Therefore, we have already carried out extensive study, technical exercise and correspondence to address the weaknesses,” Pokharel said. <\/p>\n

According to him, the Chinese side has also expressed commitment to complete the construction on time. She urged the public to be patient as they have to face inconvenience for some time due to the construction. <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n
