Kathmandu. The Department of Roads has stated that the Nagdhunga tunnel way would be opened for the general public by mid-July. According to the Department, the tunnel way is in operation only for emergency and emergency vehicles at present. <\/p>\n
Spokesperson at the Department of Roads and Deputy Director General Engineer Shuvaraj Neupane said that final security audit is being carried out before the tunnel is opened for general and public transport. <\/p>\n
Talking to Nepal News Bank, he said, “Currently, the tunnel way is in operation only for emergency vehicles. Now, the final security test is being done before opening it to everyone,” Neupane said. <\/p>\n
According to him, a security test would be carried out on how to rescue the passengers in case of any emergency situation inside the tunnel. He said that the main topic of the test was how to rescue the bus in case of fire, especially when there is a large number of passengers in the bus. <\/p>\n
Pictures of barricades and drums placed in the tunnel are now being made public. Spokesperson Neupane said the equipment has been kept for security test and preparation. <\/p>\n
He said, “Now the barricade drums have been installed, so the photos are also coming on social media. It should be understood that we have left the movement only for emergency vehicles. There is a safety test for the final closing. We are testing how to rescue if there is a fire inside. For example, we are studying how to rescue a bus carrying 50 people if it catches fire. At the airport, sometimes emergency tests will have to be done in the same tunnel way. It’s not open to everyone because it’s one Test left. As soon as the test is over, it is open to everyone. The materials currently kept there have been kept for security testing and preparation. \u2019<\/p>\n
Neupane said that the tunnel way would be opened for all after the final security test is completed. <\/p>\n
The Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel way was formally completed in the third week of July. The tunnel was inaugurated amidst a special ceremony attended by Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal, Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru and President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Dr Tanaka Akihiko. <\/p>\n
