Kathmandu. Chairman of Ujyalo Nepal Party, Kulman Ghising, has said that he would launch a nationwide campaign against the tax imposed by the government in a way to make the general public happy. <\/p>\n
Speaking at a signature collection campaign and press meet organized in Manthali on Sunday, Ghising said that a signature campaign would be launched up to the local level across the country against the government’s move. Ghising said that they plan to collect signatures for a month and submit them to the government. <\/p>\n
“We have launched a nationwide signature collection campaign from August 15 to create public pressure,” he said. <\/p>\n
He said that the government has put the common people at a loss by imposing VAT on electricity and imposing tax on ride-sharing. According to him, the tax has been discouraged by imposing tax on the contrary at a time when the citizens should be encouraged to use electricity by reducing electricity tariff. He said that this policy brought by the government is wrong. <\/p>\n
He said that the NEA’s profit would decrease due to lack of proper management and it was unacceptable to impose burden on the general public. Ghising said that the government has acted against the people by imposing taxes on the citizens like drinking water and irrigation. <\/p>\n
Ghising also criticized the government for not paying attention to recovering more than Rs 23 crore for the line given to industries by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) during load shedding. Ghising said that the government has not paid attention even to collect electricity bills that he has started collecting. <\/p>\n
He said that electricity tariff should be waived to make the country self-reliant by increasing electricity consumption. He believes that this will displace gas and oil and help improve the country’s economy. <\/p>\n
Ghising said that taxi drivers have to pay Rs 52 lakh to buy a taxi that costs Rs 28 lakh. He demanded the government to put an end to such malpractices. Ride-sharing by the general public has also been taxed. <\/p>\n
“We are protesting demanding that the tax policy should be removed from the way the tax has been brought on the goods consumed by the general public,” Ghising said. <\/p>\n
“The government should listen to their demands,” he said, adding that if it does not listen to them, it cannot be called a two-thirds majority government. “If the government does not listen, we will decide how to proceed,” he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
