Kathmandu. The shortage of cooking gas in the market has been at an all-time high for the past two weeks. The shortage of gas cylinders has become a big problem for the consumers especially in Nepal. Consumers have been facing shortage of cooking gas due to lack of timely supply of cooking gas from India.

Hundreds of consumers have been flocking to the Nepal Gas Office at Balaju Industrial Estate every day with empty cylinders as there is no gas in the outlets of Nepal Gas.TAG_OPEN_p_19 We have been complaining that we have not been able to get gas even when we reach the office.

Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has also said that it has been drawn to the long queues and complaints of consumers.TAG_OPEN_p_18 According to the corporation, there is a problem in the supply as some consumers are trying to keep stock due to rumors of shortage of gas in the market.

The NOC has been supplying gas continuously for the last three months keeping in mind the demand of the winter season.TAG_OPEN_p_17 According to the NOC, 47,264 metric tonnes of cooking gas was imported in November 2025, 48,531 metric tonnes in December and 47,304 metric tonnes in January 2026.

At present, only a limited number of industries in the market are facing shortage of cylinders and instructions have been issued to facilitate the supply immediately.TAG_OPEN_p_16 Also, keeping in mind the upcoming elections, the NOC has prepared an additional 2,000 metric tons of gas bottler-wise allocation along with the regular quota.

The corporation has urged consumers to buy LPG only as per the need and not to store it unnecessarily.TAG_OPEN_p_15 Nepal Gas Company (NGAS) has said that the problem seen in transportation is still continuing.
