Kathmandu. Bhumika Shrestha, who was elected to the proportional representation (PR) quota from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has said that her responsibility has increased further. She is the first transgender woman to be elected to parliament from gender and sexual minorities.

Talking to Nepal News Bank, Shrestha said that she has been asked to work harder as her responsibilities have been added and her participation in the parliament is positive. She also said that the party was chosen because it was capable of maintaining good governance and implementing the principle of inclusion.

He said, “The RSP cares very much about the principle of inclusion. The party has taken its participation positively. The party is very good at bringing forward the principle of inclusion to maintain good governance. ’

According to her, although the constitution has incorporated the voice of gender and sexual minority, it has not been implemented. She said her main agenda now is to help make the necessary rules and regulations, and to push the case on how to advance the community’s voice.

“Articles 12, 18 and 42 of the constitution have included the voice of sexual and gender minority. But it is difficult to implement it in the absence of proper mechanism or structure. The kind of policies, rules and laws that should be made, the kind of blueprint that should be prepared. It is not ready. Now I will be active for that. ’

She said that it was her responsibility not only to raise the voice of her community but also to raise the voice of Madhesi, Muslim and people with disabilities. He said that he would put forward the main agenda of bringing forward the backward voices and issues like unity in diversity.

Shrestha said that it was her responsibility to bring the issues of education, health, employment, citizenship, issues of gender minority and marriage equality aside. She said that in the next five years, we will work with more focus on the community.

Stating that he has not thought about a separate political party, Shrestha said that all political parties in Nepal should take up the issues of all communities equally. She said that she would fulfill the responsibility given to her by the party as the government led by the RSP would be formed in the coming days.

He said that he will not step down after the responsibility of the ministry. Although he has been raising the issues of the community for the past one and a half decades, he believes that he will now work more forcefully.
