Ram Bahadur Thapa appointed CPN-UML parliamentary party leader

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Ram Bahadur Thapa has been elected the parliamentary party leader of the CPN-UML. A meeting of the parliamentary party held on Wednesday unanimously elected Badal, who is also the vice-chairperson of the party, as the leader of the party.

Suhang Nembang, who had been claiming for the post of party leader, had been elected unopposed after he did not get his supporter and proposer.

Unveiling the decisions of the meeting after the election of the party leader, Badal said, “Today’s meeting unanimously elected the parliamentary party leader. I have been selected as the leader of the party. In the near future, an orientation program for honorable members of both the Houses, the National Assembly and the House of Representatives, is scheduled to be held on the 21st of this month. ’

The meeting also passed a resolution against the illegal and prejudiced arrest of KP Sharma Oli and Ramesh Lekhak.

Badal said he was determined to raise his agenda vigorously in the House of Representatives and National Assembly meetings to be held tomorrow. “We will raise the commitments made in the manifesto in parliament and will act as a vigilant watchdog, playing the role of the opposition,” he said.

Meanwhile, commenting on the leader selection process, Suhang Nembang said that the results were not as per his expectation. “The result is that there is no other candidate more qualified than me to be the leader of the parliamentary party,” he told reporters.

He also stressed the need to rise above the thinking of ruling and opposition parties while entering the parliament and work for the welfare of the country and people.

“We should understand that it will never be good in the interest of the people and the country if anybody thinks ahead of himself as the ruling party and the opposition while entering the parliament,” he said. We should support the good work done by the government in a strong way. Pointing out the shortcomings of the government, we should provide suggestions and help in a constructive manner with caution. ’

Suhang had claimed the leadership of the party saying that the new generation should now get the leadership. The UML has 25 lawmakers in the House of Representatives.
