Kathmandu. The US space agency (NASA) has released the outline of its ambitious ‘Moon Base’ plan for permanent human presence on the Moon. NASA has released details of the robotic lander, hopping drone, and vehicles it aims to send to the Moon.
As part of its Artemis exploration program, NASA has launched a strategy to develop human settlements and infrastructure near the moon’s south pole.
The program, held at NASA’s headquarters in Washington, Washington, presented a roadmap for building the necessary infrastructure for long-term human exploration, scientific research and commercial activities on the Moon.
Before humans travel to the Moon, robotic landers and hopping drones will be sent to explore and map the challenging terrain. According to NASA, the ‘Moon Base’ project is divided into three phases. The first phase will run until 2029 and will include robotic exploration and testing of necessary technology.
The second phase, from 2029 to 2032, will involve the establishment of early housing systems as well as energy and communication infrastructure. The third phase will start after 2032. In this phase, the goal is to establish a permanent human presence on the moon and strengthen the technology to use the resources available on the moon.
China has also stepped up its activities to send people to the moon by 2030. It recently sent a new team to the Tiangong Space Station aboard the Xiangzhou-23 spacecraft.
