Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Vice-Chairman Bishnu Poudel has said that the issue of party membership is the fundamental and decisive aspect of building a communist party.
Speaking at a workshop organized by the CPN (UML) Central Organization Department here today, he said the party’s progress would depend on ideological clarity, organizational discipline, activism and dedication to the goal.
The party would achieve its success only if the party members are knowledgeable, organized, disciplined, active and devoted to its goal, he added. According to him, the expected results would not be achieved even if the party’s size was big if the quality of membership was weakened.
“A party progresses if its members are well-informed with the party’s ideology and analysis, are organized, disciplined, active and dedicated to goal,” he said. If we fail on the question of party membership, if we fail in its quality, the result will not be good even if it is large in size. ’
Stating that there was a tradition of taking the party membership with utmost importance in the communist movement, Poudel recalled that there were instances in which people who had made significant contributions in different sectors during the international communist movement could not get the membership. He, therefore, said that the issue of membership should be taken as the issue of fundamental and decisive importance for party building.
“Obtaining party membership is considered the most important issue in the communist party. There are these kinds of experiences in the world. There are also such experiences in the international communist movement that people who have made very commendable and high contributions in various genres could not get when they wanted to join the Party. Therefore, we believe that the question of party membership is a matter of fundamental and decisive importance for the formation of the Party. ’
Vice-Chairman Poudel expressed the view that the question of party membership was not only a technical issue but also a political, ideological and theoretical issue. He was of the view that organizational building should be seen only by linking party members with ideology and politics.
“The question of party membership is not only a technical question but also a political one. This is an ideological question. I think we should look at the issue of party organization only by linking the party members with an ideology and politics. The Party’s ideology and its values are also interlinked with the formation of the Party. ’
Stating that party building, ideology and values were interrelated, he stressed the need of paying special attention to these aspects in the process of membership expansion and renewal.
