21,000 doses of cholera vaccine sent to Rasuwa

Kathmandu. As the risk of cholera has increased after floods and landslides, 21,000 doses of vaccine against cholera have been sent to Rasuwa.

The vaccine received with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO) was sent to Rasuwa by a Nepal Army helicopter on Sunday morning.

Kathmandu : Minister for Health and Population Nisha Mehta has directed the authorities concerned to immediately provide medicines, vaccines, health supplies and essential public health services to reduce the risk of cholera and other water-borne diseases in flood-affected areas.

Health officials said that as per the minister’s directive, the government has started sending vaccines and medicines to the affected areas, increasing disease surveillance, paying special attention to safe drinking water and sanitation, and mobilizing the necessary health workers.

Prevention, early detection and treatment management have been prioritized in the affected areas, saying the risk of cholera and other water-borne diseases has increased as the floods have damaged drinking water sources and distribution systems.
