Demonstration against Guthi Sansthan in Janakpurdham

Kathmandu. A protest has been held against the Guthi Sansthan in Janakpurdham. The Guthi Kutti Real Estate Management Mahasangharsh Committee on Friday staged a protest against the Guthi Sansthan, the government and the people’s representatives and also submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Office.

Santosh Kumar Sah, chairperson of the Mahastruggle Committee, said that the government has been trying to evict thousands of families from the land of Guthi Kutti that they have been living in for generations in the name of encroachment-free campaign.

Stating that more than 30,000 people have been living in the land of Guthi and Kutti in Janakpurdham and other areas, they have demanded that the government should charge fees and hand over such land as local lands, he said.

In other municipalities of Dhanusha, more than 500 people have been provided land ownership certificates in the last one month. But the government is trying to create a settlement by targeting Janakpurdham, said Chairman Sah.

Only a few days ago, Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City Ward No. Many houses were demolished in the name of encroachment free by using a dozer in Ward No. 6. Saying that one of the women who was demolished had to live with her three-month-old child on a plastic roof, Chairman Sah questioned whether the government would only stand up or take the responsibility of rehabilitation.

Chairman Sah said that the government’s policies will destroy Janakpurdham. He warned that the government itself would be responsible for the loss of life and property caused by it.

The struggle committee has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office, Guthi Sansthan and the Land Reform Office through Dhanusha district mayor Prem Prasad Luitel. More than 500 people have participated in the protest.
