Mahesh Basnet concedes defeat in Bhaktapur-2

Kathmandu. Mahesh Basnet, who is contesting the House of Representatives election from Bhaktapur-2 on a CPN (UML) ticket, has admitted that the results of this election could not be in his favour. He said people’s decision is supreme in a democracy and that it would be accepted respectfully.

“I had contested the election from Bhaktapur-2 on a Nepal Communist Party (UML) ticket. This time, the result could not be in our favour, but I accept it respectfully with the belief that people’s decision is paramount in a democracy. ’

He also congratulated Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Rajiv Khatri and wished him a successful term.

According to the Election Commission’s update, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RSP)’s Rajiv Khatri is leading with 34702 votes. UML’s Basnet has 8351 votes. Kabir Rana of Nepali Congress is in the third position with 7321 votes. The counting of votes is underway.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Rajiv Khatri and wish him a successful term,” he said.

On the occasion, Basnet thanked the voters who trusted him and expressed gratitude to the party leaders and cadres as well as supporters who were involved in the election campaign.

Basnet said that winning and losing is a natural process in politics and the commitment to serve the people would never be lost.

Stating that he would play the role of a constructive opposition in the days ahead, he pledged to continue raising voice from outside the parliament for education, health, employment, corruption-free good governance and building a prosperous society.
