Kathmandu. CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet has said that the establishment day of the Communist Party of Nepal should be remembered not only as a day to remember but also to express commitment to face challenges.
Sharing a picture of party chairman KP Sharma Oli on social media, Secretary Basnet said that inequality, unemployment, inflation and despair have increased in the society after the formation of the government of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
Basnet wrote, “The attempt to dissolve the workers’ and students’ unions indicates that the government is heading towards an authoritarian path. ’
“The arrest of party chairman KP Sharma Oli with the intention of weakening the communist movement has raised questions on democratic norms and values,” Basnet said. “This kind of attitude of the government will lead the country towards fascism and call for countering it,” he said.
Basnet wrote, “There is a need today. Not a slogan, but a change in practice. Not power or centralized politics. Not division, but unity and rebuilding public trust. ’
Basnet has said that the time has come to move ahead in a stronger, resilient and organized manner for equality, justice and workers’ rights.
“Let us make the national campaign of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ more effective under the guidance of people’s multiparty democracy. ’
