Kathmandu. The BP Highway, which was blocked due to flooding in Roshi River, has resumed. The highway, which was obstructed after the flood swept away the diversion on Saturday, came into operation from Monday evening.

According to the District Police Office, Kavre, the vehicular movement has resumed after a temporary diversion was constructed at the swept-away area.

As soon as the rain started on Saturday afternoon, the administration closed the road in view of the possible risks. Meanwhile, the flood in the Roshi River had damaged diversions constructed in about four kilometers of Roshikhola along the Katunje-Mangaltar section.

Floods in Roshi Khola last year and this year’s rainy season have already washed away around 18 kilometers of road along the Roshi River along the BP Highway. The road is being reconstructed by constructing a temporary diversion in the river itself as the road reconstruction work is ongoing.

However, there is a risk of flooding even during normal rainfall as the road has been constructed in the river. Despite being repaired time and again, the problem of damage to the road has been repeated due to floods.

Although the road reconstruction works are taking place, the pace of construction is slow and there is little possibility of bringing it into operation before this year’s rainy season. This has forced the passengers travelling from Kathmandu to the east to face inconvenience.

Vehicles coming to Kathmandu from east had to travel via Manthali of Ramechhap via Charikot of Dolakha as an alternative route. It takes more than four hours to travel to and from Kathmandu using this route.

Police have urged the road users to be cautious as the road would be disrupted with the onset of rain.
