Nepali women being sold for Rs 10 to 12 lakh in Kuwait

Kathmandu. Chief Whip of the opposition Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Khusbu Oli, has demanded that the government immediately arrest the gangs involved in human trafficking and take action against them.

Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday, she claimed that Nepali human traffickers in Kuwait and other countries have been trafficking Nepali women for Rs 10 to 12 lakh in the name of foreign employment.

Chief Whip Oli said that although the government has banned sending domestic workers to the Gulf countries, human smugglers use various illegal means to transport them to those countries. She has warned the government to keep a strict vigil on such activities.

Speaking in the parliament, she said, “The Nepali state should immediately search for Sharmila Darji in Kuwait.” I would also like to draw the attention of the Government of Nepal on this issue. This is just a representative event, Mr. Speaker. There are thousands of other such cases.

To analyse all these events, we have to go back to 2017. Since 2017, the government of Nepal has banned Nepali citizens, especially Nepali women, from going abroad for domestic work. The government’s argument was to protect them from exploitation. Did this ban really make women safer? ’

“The ban has not stopped people going abroad as domestic workers,” she added. Agents are using various alternative routes to transport our women to the Gulf. Sometimes they cross the border via India, sometimes they are transit to African countries like Tanzania.

Agents are Nepalis everywhere. Therefore, the agents involved in human trafficking need to be dismantled. At present, smugglers are selling Nepali women in Kuwait for Rs 10 to 12 lakh. ’

Chief Whip Oli said the government should not remain a mute spectator to the mischief and suffering of innocent citizens in the name of foreign employment. He said the government should not delay even a bit in the rescue of the stranded and victimized Nepali citizens.
