Fake Bhutanese refugee case: Petition filed demanding to summon KP Oli and others in statement

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — A writ petition has been filed at the Kathmandu District Court demanding that former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and others be summoned for statement in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee case.

Former prime minister Oli, former home minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, CIAA chief Prem Kumar Rai, NC leaders Arzu Deuba, Manju Khand and Rajesh Bajracharya have been summoned in statement by the CIAA, according to advocate Bhadra Prasad Nepal.

Advocate Nepal said that the audio statement and video evidence given by these people in the Bhutanese refugee case have been submitted along with the documents. Nepal said that the hearing will be held in the court tomorrow based on the petition.

A single bench of District Judge Tej Bahadur Khadka is hearing the case related to Bhutanese refugees in the final phase from Wednesday. The charge sheet claims that Nepali nationals were converted into Bhutanese refugees by preparing fake documents.

The hearing comes nearly three years after the case was filed on five charges, including organized crime.

The case was filed against 30 persons, including former deputy prime minister and CPN-UML leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former home minister Bal Krishna Khand, then home secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, former lawmaker Angatawa Sherpa and security advisor to then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Indrajit Rai, on May 23, 2008, on charges of forgery, cheating, organized crime and sedition.
