PM’s remarks raise questions on constitutional dignity: Khusbu Oli

Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Khusbu Oli drew the government’s attention towards the controversy over Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s remarks, independence of constitutional bodies, increasing interference in administrative mechanism and diplomatic decorum.

Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, she said that the remarks of the Prime Minister have raised question on the constitutional dignity, sovereignty and institutional stability of the country.

“It has been several weeks since the Prime Minister’s remarks have raised a serious question not only in the parliament but also on the constitutional dignity, sovereignty and institutional stability of the country. We continue to expect a responsible response, but there are signs of silence and mixed show of power, not accountability from the Prime Minister’s Office. ’

Oli also accused the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers of interfering with the independence of the constitutional bodies.

Referring to public reports, she demanded a clear response from the government on allegations that advisers and aides at the Prime Minister’s Office had exerted pressure on the office-bearers of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.

“If this news is untrue, the government should immediately refute it,” he said. If true, it is a direct interference in the independence of constitutional bodies,” she said.

Claiming that such activities have a tendency to dent Nepal’s diplomatic reputation, Oli warned that the treatment meted out to the representatives of the diplomatic missions could tarn Nepal’s image in the international forum.

She expressed concern over the increasing influence of the private secretariat from the Prime Minister’s Office to various ministries and the informal power center is coming to dominate the permanent administrative mechanism.
