PM Oli to attend UN General Assembly

KATHMANDU: A high-level delegation led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah is leaving for the United States of America next week to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal gave this information at a meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee held in Singha Durbar on Thursday. He said that the Prime Minister will represent Nepal in the United Nations General Assembly beginning next week and he will also be part of the delegation. During Nepal’s participation in the UNGA, issues related to national interest, international relations and current world issues are aimed to be raised.

Speaking at the meeting, Foreign Minister Khanal said, “The General Assembly of the United Nations will start from next week. He said that he and other teams are going to participate in the meeting under the leadership of the Right Honorable Prime Minister from Nepal.

In Thursday’s committee meeting, Nepal’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly and special discussions were held with experts on climate change. During the meeting, experts expressed their views on the risks facing Nepal from climate change, climate justice, international cooperation and climate finance.

The committee also held in-depth discussions on effectively presenting Nepal’s climate change issues in the international forums. Foreign Minister Khanal described the participation of the UNGA as an important opportunity to present Nepal’s international relations and diplomatic priorities.
