Locals stranded on Dolpa due to snowfall

Kathmandu. Passengers en route to Dolpa from Kathmandu have been stranded due to heavy snowfall. Dozens of vehicles and passengers have been stranded along the Rukum (East-Baglung) section of the Mid-Hill Highway.

Mukunda Poudel, a Dolpa-bound commuter, said that passengers have been stranded on the road for hours as buses and other vehicles could not move ahead due to heavy snowfall along the road.TAG_OPEN_p_16 According to him, passengers are facing problems due to extreme cold and the health of some is also being affected.

Giving information over the phone, Poudel said, “We are sitting by fire in two small shops.TAG_OPEN_p_15 But one disabled citizen is in the vehicle, there is no arrangement for food and drink. The situation is very critical. ”

Passengers have complained that they have not taken initiative from the concerned bodies for the rescue even after a long time of being stuck in the snow.TAG_OPEN_p_14 They have demanded immediate rescue, food, warm clothes and medical assistance. Most of the passengers trapped in the snow are from Dolpa.

Passengers heading from Rukum East stuck in Baglung section

According to Sita Pariyar, Chief District Officer of Rukum (East), the passengers stranded in Rukum (East) were rescued on Wednesday and sent to Baglung.TAG_OPEN_p_13

} She said, “Passengers are not stranded in Rukum East at present. Under my leadership, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army and Bhume Rural Municipality used dozers to clear the snow and rescue the missing people. ”

According to him, the border of Rukum (TAG_OPEN_p_11 East) has been cut off by government vehicles. After that, the passengers went to Baglung section and stopped again.

Chief District Officer of Baglung, Krishna Prasad Acharya, said that although there was not much snowfall, some vehicles have been stopped due to slippery road.TAG_OPEN_p_10 Efforts are underway to clear the snow and open the road, he said, “We could not open the road due to incessant snowfall yesterday. It is still slippery this morning due to light snowfall, but efforts are being made to fully reopen the road today. ”
