Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Coordinator of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has paid tributes to all known and unknown martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation, nationality, democracy, social justice and rights on the occasion of Martyrs Day on January 31.

Stating that the history of Nepal’s change is written with the blood of martyrs, Dahal recalled the sacrifices of Lakhan Thapa, Bankabir to Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand and Ganga Lal Shrestha against the feudal Rana regime, the struggle of Bhim Dutta Pant in favour of farmers, people’s war, people’s movement since the Panchayat era, Madhes, Tharu and other communities and the sacrifices of the martyrs of the last Gen-G movement.

He said the common objective of the martyrs was to establish democracy, equality, justice and good governance of the people by ending feudalism, oppression and discrimination.

According to Prachanda, today Nepal has reached republic, federalism, inclusion and secularism, and this is the result of the invaluable sacrifices of all the martyrs.

Stating that the dreams of the martyrs were still not fulfilled, he said the struggle for social justice, economic equality, ending corruption, good governance and national independence was still going on.

Prachanda said that the Martyrs’ Day would be meaningful only if the unfulfilled dreams of the martyrs could be fulfilled.

He urged one and all to introspect, not to be distracted and to take the Martyrs Day as a day to move ahead on the path of struggle by standing firmly in favour of the people. He also urged one and all to commit to building a prosperous socialist Nepal on the basis of achievements.
