Kathmandu. CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet has said that the Supreme Court should not be able to abdicate its responsibility on the issue of reinstatement of the House of Representatives.

Speaking at a dialogue program organized by Press Chautari Nepal, he said that the Supreme Court should immediately give its verdict on the case related to the dissolution of parliament. He said that the judicial process was delayed due to fear of the court. Basnet said the judicial process should not be subject to fear, pressure, greed and interference from anyone.

He claimed that the fear of impeachment, national and international pressure has led to the judges recoiling from the decision. He said that there is a tendency of the Chief Justice and other justices to be absent on the pretext of illness, switching off their phones and avoiding decisions. He said that this has made the country feel that the country is on the verge of a big foreign attack. “I feel that the entire judicial system is burning along with the Supreme Court, High Court and District Courts,” he said. According to Basnet, the Supreme Court’s delay in taking a clear decision on the reinstatement of the parliament has thrown the country into confusion.

“The judicial process has been delayed due to terror, fear and greed or interference, justice will not be delivered, we will be pressured to impeach tomorrow or fear in front of national and international parties and we will be left behind,” he said. This tendency is entangled in the issue of judicial redressal of the reinstatement of Parliament. Even today, we expected the court to go up. There is a tendency for the Chief Justice and other judges to disappear, turn off their phones and withdraw due to undiagnosed diseases.

This shows that we are in a very big foreign attack. Not only our Supreme Court, High Court and District Court have been burnt, but our judicial system is burning. The Supreme Court cannot run away from the issue of reinstatement of Parliament. It should be resolved immediately. If the parliament is to be reinstated, all these activities and expenses in the name of elections will be unnecessary and if not, we should go to the polls confidently. ’

He also accused the incumbent government of failing to conduct elections in a fair manner. He accused the government of carrying out activities including holding elections in two phases to make a particular party victorious. He said that the police in Jhapa constituency-5 were seeking votes for the candidate of Rastriya Swatantra Party.
