All vehicles except essential services banned from 12 midnight today

Kathmandu. All vehicles except the most essential ones have been banned from 12:00 midnight today in view of the election to the members of the House of Representatives.

Vehicular movement has been banned until the completion of the election by tightening the election security arrangements.

However, essential vehicles and those with passes from the Election Commission will be allowed to operate unhindered. The commission had recommended the government to ban the operation of vehicles to make necessary security arrangements. According to Election Commission’s information officer Suman Ghimire, the vehicular movement has been banned from 12 midnight Wednesday to 5 pm Thursday. He said that all vehicles except essential services will not be allowed to operate until the voting is completed.

According to him, the commission has made arrangements to allow the operation of three types of vehicles. According to Information Officer Ghimire, emergency vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, mortuary vehicles, blood transfusion vehicles, drinking water and electricity repair vehicles will be allowed to operate. Likewise, vehicles with blue plates of diplomatic missions and vehicles with permits approved by the Election Commission and the concerned District Administration Office will also be allowed to operate. Information Officer Ghimire urged all the voters and passengers to reach their destinations before the vehicular stop.

“The Election Commission has recommended the government to ban the movement of vehicles from 12:00 midnight tonight until the voting is completed tomorrow or until 5:00 pm tomorrow,” he said. Accordingly, except for some vehicles of essential service, other vehicles are not allowed to ply. Therefore, all the voters, all the passengers who have to reach their destinations, all have to reach by 12 o’clock tonight.

I heartily request all the dignitaries to ensure that vehicles will run only till 12 midnight tonight. There are three types of vehicles that can be operated in the event of a ban on this vehicle. One, emergency service vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, hearse vehicles can be operated. Similarly, vehicles with blue plates of diplomatic missions can also be operated. Vehicles that have been issued passes by the Election Commission and the concerned District Administration Offices as per the procedures approved by the Election Commission will also be allowed to operate during this period. ’

The EC has also urged the local security bodies to coordinate with the nearest security bodies in case of any obstruction or problem in the use of vehicles during the election period. The EC has stated that the security bodies would make arrangements to facilitate in coordination with the Election Commission if necessary.
