Likewise, customs duty will not be levied on any laptop, tablet or computer brought by a student studying in India.

The government has released a new list of baggage that Nepali passengers can carry while travelling. Most of these items are repeated from last year. Some items and borders have been changed.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the Nepali citizens who are permanently residing in Nepal will be allowed to bring their goods for personal use at full tariff discount when returning to Nepal.

The duty exemption will be provided on the import of used clothes, bedding, old household items, medicines brought by patients who have returned after medical treatment, items used by physically handicapped people as support, gold and gold ornaments and silver and silver ornaments up to the quantity specified in paragraph 1 of Schedule 4 of the Customs Duty Act, 2081.

However, the duty exemption will be on the 65-inch television brought by the Nepalis who have gone for foreign employment after working continuously for 12 months. In the previous provision, citizens listed in the Social Security Fund were exempted from buying a television of any size and type, while in case of those not listed in the fund, only a 32-inch television was exempted.

According to the Ministry of Finance, such discount facility will be available for one time only. Apart from this, the duty will also be waived on perambulators and tricycles and items related to their profession by professional passengers. Liquor up to one liter and food items up to seven kilograms have also been included in the exempted list.

KATHMANDU: A person living abroad will be able to get clearance by charging a fee of up to $ 500 for sending goods to their relatives or family members in Nepal. However, if the goods are found to be cheaper than such price, the goods can be confiscated, fined and paid. This is also a provision in the existing rules.

Similarly, a cigarette can be examined up to 200 shills or a cigar up to 50 shillings by charging a fee as per the prevailing law. The government has decided to provide a complete exemption on personal use items up to Rs 50,000 if the Indian Army or Nepal Police has returned home after retiring after submitting his/her documents. The same limit was set in the past.

If the death of any Nepali citizen is proved while staying abroad, all types of old items of personal use of the person and family will be exempted from the duty if they are brought back to the country. Vehicles, weapons and ammunition are not included in the list.
