Kathmandu. CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is preparing to call the party’s central committee meeting till the third week of August. According to a source close to Oli, Oli has been holding internal discussions on calling the secretariat meeting in the third week of August before the central committee meeting and then the central committee meeting after that.
“The chairman has said that the central committee meeting will probably be called in the second week of August. Before that, the secretariat meeting can also be held,” an office-bearer close to Oli told Ratopati, “Before that, the chairman will hold discussions with the office-bearers.” ’
UML Publicity and Publication Department Chief Niraj Acharya said that the party’s central committee meeting is likely to finalize the date for the central committee meeting.
“The secretariat meeting will be held first and the date for the central committee meeting will be decided,” Acharya said, “The date of the secretariat meeting has not been fixed yet.” ’
Chairman Oli has been keeping the draft of the report prepared by the task force led by Vice-Chairman Thapa for a long time. The task force has not been able to give the draft a final report.
Badal is said to have been ignoring the repeated requests of the taskforce members to call the task force meeting at the earliest.
“The members have asked the coordinator to call the task force meeting and give final shape to the report, but he has not taken the initiative to call it,” a member of the task force told Ratopati. ’
General Secretary of the taskforce Shankar Pokhrel had prepared the report. Pokharel had given the draft to coordinator Thapa to study, but Thapa had handed it over to Chairman Oli. Sources claim that Oli has ‘hold’ some issues in the draft of the report.
“Oli might have disagreed with the term ‘overall party restructuring’ mentioned in the report,” said a source, adding, “The word ‘overall party restructuring’ was included in the report as it was used in course of collecting suggestions. Voices have been raised that leaders including Oli should take leave while reshuffling the UML. However, Oli is not ready to step down as a new leadership was elected through the general convention only in November. “Why should we leave the legitimate general convention and the elected leadership at a bad time,” Oli has been telling the leaders close to him.
