Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that it is ironic that there is talk of toppling the government through agitation immediately after the festival.
According to him, it is worrisome that there is talk of a storm of agitation and change of government in the country immediately after the major national festivals are over.
Bhattarai said, “In advanced multiparty democracy, there are ruling and opposition parties and it is absolutely natural and necessary that there should be continuous competition and cooperation among them, and there should be criticism in the parliament and on the streets.” ’
“What could be other than short-sightedness and foolishness that the country is at risk of a geopolitical storm?” he asked.
“But to change or topple the government a few days after the conclusion of the election, which the country has suffered time and again in the past and has already seen its consequences, is to plunge the country into a whirlpool of uncertainty, keep the economy sinking into the abyss, chase children abroad with their parents in their hands, and put the country at risk of a geopolitical storm that is looming over the
country,” he added.
He urged all citizens responsible towards the country and the people to be serious. He also appealed to those in the government and various organs of power to be constantly vigilant.
“Let us pierce the ears of those in power, especially those who are in distress, those who have been historically deprived, and the voices of the poor-faced people. Let us punish those in power in a lawful manner and remove those who do not listen,” he said, “but let the elected government work for its full term as long as it remains within the ambit of the constitution. ’
