Durga Prasai released from jail

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Coordinator of the Save the Nation, Nationality, Religion and Culture, Citizen Save Mega Campaign, has been released from jail.

A division bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Megh Raj Pokharel issued the order on Tuesday. Uma Prasain had filed a habeas corpus application at the Supreme Court last week, claiming that he was illegally detained in the custody of the District Police Range.

The Election Commission had written to the police to take action against Prasai for his involvement in election fraying. Accordingly, police arrested Prasain from Kathmandu on February 14.

Although an order was issued to release him on Tuesday, he was released only today after the necessary process could not be completed during office hours.
