Kathmandu. At least 83 children have been killed in Lebanon in the past week due to military violence and increased violence. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has expressed serious concern over the increasing number of deaths and injuries among children.

UNICEF’s Middle East and North Africa Regional Director, Eduard Beigbender, said in a statement on Monday that the impact of the escalating conflict on children in Lebanon was “deeply concerning”.

At least 83 children have been killed and 254 injured in Lebanon since March 2, he said. On average, more than 10 children have been killed and 36 injured every day in the past week, according to the data.

According to UNICEF, 329 children have been killed and 1,632 injured in the conflict in Lebanon in the past 28 months. In the last six days, the number of deaths of children has increased by 25 percent, calling it a very alarming situation.

“Children continue to be killed and injured at alarming rates due to military offensives across the country,” Beigbender said, forcing families to flee in fear and thousands of children spending nights in cold, overcrowded shelters. ”

According to UNICEF, more than 700,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon due to the conflict. There are about 2 lakh children. The organization has urged all sides to protect the citizens and civic structures. UNICEF also called for adherence to international humanitarian law to ensure the safety of schools, shelters and other civilian infrastructure.

Regional conflicts in the Middle East are escalating due to escalating military tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel. Tehran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint US and Israeli military strike on February 28.

Iran retaliated by attacking US military bases and Israeli targets in several Arab countries. Israel has continued its attacks on Iran, extending the conflict to Lebanon and carrying out military strikes against Hezbollah and Iranian-backed groups.
