। Matrika Prasad Yadav, a candidate for the House of Representatives from the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), has been given the certificate of election to the House of Representatives from Dhanusha-1 at a time when the case of Rastriya Samajwadi Party candidate Kishori Sah Kamal is underway in the court. The Election Officer’s Office handed over the certificates to Yadav on Monday evening.
The office of the returning officer handed over the election certificate to Yadav after intense pressure from NCP cadres and supporters. Although the Election Commission had rejected the candidacy of RSP candidate Kishori Sah, it had asked her to keep a record of the votes she received.
However, the next day, it issued another letter directing the government not to provide certificates to those who were elected and not to make public the results of the vote counting.
Nepali Congress candidate Ram Paltan Sah got 9,485 votes and CPN-UML’s Ram Chandra Mandal got 9,220 votes. Although the candidacy of RSP candidate Kamal was rejected, he got almost double the votes in his election symbol than that of Matrika.
Issuing a press release today, CPN central office secretary Govinda Acharya clarified that it was a serious matter that the Election Commission had already annulled the candidacy of Kishori Sah Kamal, the candidate of Rastriya Swatantra Party, as per the Election Act, 2074.
Although the election results were made public on the basis of a letter from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), the EC had been dilly-dallying to issue the certificate to Yadav. The case related to the blacklisting of RSP candidate Kamal is currently underway at the Supreme Court.
