Court orders Mahesh Basnet to file written reply on contempt of court case

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court (SC) has sought written response from CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet on the contempt of court charge. A division bench of Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Mahesh Sharma Poudel issued the order to the court today.

Advocate Laban Neupane on Wednesday filed a contempt of court case against Basnet. The contempt of court case was filed against the Supreme Court Justices for his remarks centering on the case against the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

Speaking at a program organized by Press Chautari Nepal on January 24, Basnet said that the Chief Justice and other justices would disappear due to undiagnosed diseases, that the judicial process would be delayed due to panic, fear or greed or interference in the judicial process, would not deliver justice, would be pressured, impeachment would come tomorrow or fear in front of national and international powers, and the Chief Justice and other justices would turn off the phone or backtrack ।

“This shows that not only our Supreme Court, High Court and District Courts, but our judicial system has also been burnt,” Basnet said in the writ.
