PM calls National Security Council meeting

Kathmandu. The Security Council is meeting today. Prime Minister Balen Shah, who is also the Chairman of the Council, called the meeting today.

The meeting will take place at 11:30 am today. The meeting will discuss the overall peace and security situation of the country including the Sunsari incident.

According to Part 28 of the Constitution of Nepal, the National Security Council consists of the Prime Minister, the Defense Minister, the Home Minister, the Foreign Minister, the Finance Minister, the Chief Secretary and the Chief of the Army Staff. The Secretary of Defense serves as the Member Secretary of the Council.

The Council is responsible for making recommendations to the Government of Nepal regarding the mobilization and control of the Nepal Army, preparing the necessary action plan for the strengthening and modernization of the Nepali Army, formulating the policy regarding the arms and equipment required for the security bodies and their standards, formulating the policy related to the overall national interest, security and defense of the country and advising the Government of Nepal on the national interest, security and defense.
