Samyukta Hindu Morcha and Home Minister Sudan Gurung sign 13-point charter of demands

Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudan Gurung and Hindu Morcha have signed a 13-point agreement.

In a two-phase meeting held in Janakpurdham on Saturday, the Hindu Morcha and the government reached an agreement. The demands put forth by the UDMF include making it a Hindu state for promoting sustainable peace, social harmony, religious tolerance and economic coexistence.

Following the Sunsari incident, Hindu organisations had been protesting in Dhanusha as well. A team led by Home Minister had reached Janakpurdham today to hold talks to control the situation.

With the agreement, the UDMF has withdrawn all its protest and protest programs.

Here are the points mentioned in the agreed demand letter:

1. To initiate an all-party and all-party discussion process on the issue of declaring Nepal a Hindu state with a majority of 81 percent Hindus including Kirants and Buddhists for the promotion of sustainable peace, social harmony, religious tolerance and economic coexistence within three months.

2. Control the display of deadly weapons during festivals and religious occasions celebrated by any religion, sect or community. To take action against the person or group who commits such acts in accordance with the law.

3. Control the use of loudspeakers and loudspeakers installed in monasteries, temples, mosques, monasteries, churches and religious places. Arrangements shall be made to limit the use of sound to the premises for essential religious activities.

4. To document and disclose the identity of all the people living in temples, mosques, monasteries, churches and other religious places.

5. Identify the people who spread religious, communal, caste-based violence, enmity, character assassination or immoral thoughts through social media or other means and take action as per the prevailing laws.

6. Review the cases filed against those arrested during the agitation after the Sunsari Dewangunj incident and take necessary decision and release the people concerned as per the legal process.

7. To make arrangements for medical treatment and necessary health services to those injured during the agitation.

8. Review the rationale, necessity and legal grounds of the religious commissions and initiate the process of abolishing them.

9. Government of Nepal shall ensure the security and religious security of the agitating citizens.

10. To initiate necessary legal process regarding foreign nationals by conducting investigation into the Nepali citizenship granted from 2062/2063 till now. – Within three months)

11. Immediately take action against madrasas, mosques and other religious institutions by investigating, monitoring and regulating various fundings.

12. To identify the perpetrators of heinous crimes, take legal action and compensate the victims.

13. The Samyukta Hindu Morcha (UDM) has called off all its protest programmes from today÷.
