Kathmandu. The Election Commission has urged the people’s representatives of the rural municipalities not to participate in the election publicity.

The EC has urged the government to maintain freedom, fairness, transparency, austerity and fear-free environment in the elections. “Serious attention has been drawn to the complaints received that some people’s representatives were involved in the election publicity campaign of political parties and candidates against the election code of conduct,” the EC said in a statement.

As per the election code of conduct, the office-bearers of the executive can be involved in the election publicity of the political parties concerned in the local levels other than the municipality where they are incumbent, but they cannot use government resources and means.

The EC has also warned the office-bearers not to take part in the election publicity campaign of any political party or candidate in the local level where they are incumbent, breaching the election code of conduct.
