Kathmandu. Chairman of Ujyalo Nepal Party, Kulman Ghising, has said that the country needed a leader who can have vision, plan and work.

Through the social media, he said that the root cause of the problem is the weakness of implementation and not the agitation and declaration.

“The country needs a leadership that can have vision, plan and work, not slogans. We have seen many agitations and announcements, but the root of the problem is not the announcement, but the lack of implementation. Even today, a system that takes 15 years to construct a bridge, cannot take action against the contractors who do not work by taking the contract and cannot take any decision is hindering the development,” he wrote.

He described the recently concluded elections as not only a political contest but also an opportunity for change after the people’s voice against corruption, irregularities and incompetence.

Recalling that Nepal had to endure load-shedding for up to 18 hours in the past, he presented an example that strong decision and leadership were possible to dispel the darkness. He claimed that the country has been steered towards self-sufficiency in energy sector by reviving the Nepal Electricity Authority and expanding electricity services.

“We also witnessed 18 hours of load shedding. But through our courageous decision and strong leadership, we proved that it is possible to cut through darkness and bring light. Only 58 per cent of households had access to electricity, which led to 99 per cent of the total electrification. We revived the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and gave the country the confidence to become an exporter from an importer of electricity. ’

Similarly, works like removing hurdles in garbage management at Bancharedanda, resuming Melamchi drinking water, opening Tatopani border point and scrapping the contracts of stalled development projects were forwarded when he assumed the responsibility of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development.

Stating that the people have given a huge mandate to the Rastriya Swatantra Party with the expectation of change from the election, Ghising wished for the success of the party in maintaining good governance. He also said that the Nepal Party, which supports the government’s good works and illuminates the wrong works, will be aware of it constructively.

Stating that the election defeat was only a technical issue rather than the final result, he expressed commitment to take forward the campaign of building a bright Nepal.

“We went into the election with a commitment to work and deliver results. We won the hearts of the people by doing things like ending load-shedding, but we could not win the votes this time. But losing the election is only a technical issue. Your love, trust and goodwill through public opinion in a short span of time has become a great energy and guidance for us,” he wrote.
