Let’s go to Kathmandu. Minister for Forest, Agriculture and Livestock Development Geeta Chaudhary has said that human activities, climate change and imbalanced utilization of plant resources are under threat.
Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Department of Botany and the 27th Vegetation Day here today, she expressed her concern that although plants have a direct contribution in every sector from oxygen to medicines, food, employment and economic development, this sector is now in crisis.
Minister Chaudhary expressed the view that the future would be in crisis if the plant resources were not conserved and managed in time.
“Plants have a direct contribution in everything from the oxygen we take in to medicine, food, employment and economic development,” she said.
But due to human activities, climate change and imbalanced use, plant resources are in jeopardy. If we do not protect and manage it in time, we can put our future in jeopardy. ’
He also said that the tradition of exporting raw materials of plants is still not broken and the way forward is through research technology.
Stating that the incumbent government was moving ahead with priority on the issues of policies and acts, she assured that necessary policies and laws related to the Department of Botany would also be formulated.
