Kathmandu. Popularly known as ‘Switzerland of Nepal’, Jiri is a major tourist destination in Dolakha district. Jiri, full of green hills, open fields, traditional settlements and cool climate, awaits the arrival of tourists.

Jiri, which was once considered the main gateway for foreign tourists going to Mount Everest climbing, now sees very little tourist activity.TAG_OPEN_div_31 Locals complain that despite the expansion of road network, Jiri has been overshadowed due to lack of adequate publicity, infrastructure development and systematic tourism plan.

Attractive destinations around Jiri such as Chyodung hill, Hanumante hill, Jireshwori Mahadev, Shailung hill, Kalinchowk Bhagwati, Bigu Monastery, Tamakoshi River area and Rolwaling area have a huge potential for tourism.TAG_OPEN_div_30 Tourism entrepreneurs say that domestic and foreign tourists can be attracted if these destinations can be promoted as packages by connecting them with Jiri.

Locals believe that Jiri can once again become an attractive tourist destination if sustainable tourism can be developed by preserving the local culture, agricultural lifestyle and natural scenery.TAG_OPEN_div_29
